Gem Set plugs

August 21st, 2011

New assorted gem set plugs

This is the first batch of plugs I made with assorted tube settings.  Different sizes and shapes accounted for.  I’ve had the idea for a while and figured out the logistics to make them work.  Each gem is set in a tube, and set into wood. Full light exposure of all the stones  by security of the metal.

These are all currently available, some of them are listed on etsy right now.  The options here are not by any means limited to different woods, gems, and metals that are options.  Please contact me with any questions.

32 mm bethlahem olivewood inlayed and set

12 mm peridot colored cz, in a brass 8 point square setting, in amboyna burl, in olivewood from Bethlahem.  Available please contact me for pricing.

1 inch gem settings

12 mm natural rose cut smoky quartz in a brass star setting, in amboyna burl, in maple burl.  Available here.

natural back lighting

3/4 pistachio, brass, smoky quartz.

8 mm rose cut naturalsmoky quartz in the star setting.  You can see how well it lights up from behind.  Available here.

1 inch tiger ebony and ruby

12 mm lab created ruby, in brass square setting, in tiger ebony.  Available here.

1 inch tiger ebony ruby and brass

1 inch amboyna burl bud setting

I really enjoy these ones.  The 4 point copper bud setting is holding a 16 mm checkerboard quartz in place pretty solid.  Fully open back looks like a kaleidoscope in your ear. Simple floral motif to compliment the setting carved into the concave face.  I’m having trouble parting with these, but they are available right here.  Both of these settings themselves were made with an old copper pipe fitting, making use of an otherwise ordinary object for ornamental purposes.

1 inch copper bud setting.

I will be playing with more variations of these on all scales.  Different sizes, cuts of stone and more similar settings, maybe some silver too.  If these inspire any ideas, please do contact me.  I really enjoy these types of projects in particular.

So here we go then.

0 gauge

Olivewood rings: 0 gauge with a 45 mm diameter. Nice cut of wood and they have aged a bit since they were made a year ago.  They could use a re-finishing to smooth them out and make them shiny.  $25, or $30 re finished.

Redwood burl; 17.5 mm wearable, 13.2 mm wide.  Awesome look to these.  Nice little eyes.  $15

Red narra: 21 mm wearable, 13.3 mm wide.  I re-worked these the other day to bring them up to par.  Real shiny now.  $15

inchers

Clockwise from the top left:

Vera:  23.8 wearable, 11.6 mm wide.  These will get nice and green when they get sun exposure.  One of my favorite woods to work with.  $15

Local osage mayan eyelets:  24.5 wearable with a 27.5 mm front. 14 mm wide.  Awesome growth rings and color.  $25

2 toned mesquite eyelets: 25 mm wearable, 15.5 mm wide.  I may keep these myself if they don’t sell.  Super shiny finish. $27

Amboyna burl tears with 2 gems:  23.8 wearable,  13.3 wide.  These can still be comfortably worn in 1 inch lobes.  2 white cubic zirconia give a little bit of flash to them.  $35

Afzelia xylay:  25 mm wearable, 12.4 mm wide.  Awesome wood with a crocodile look to the grain.  $35

Olivewood with ammonite:  24.5 mm wearable, 14.5 mm wide.  The ammonite is inlayed into the wood and sits just slightly above the wood surface.  $35

Osage eyelets: 25 mm wearable, 13 mm wide.  These were made over a year ago, but I reworked them the other day to bring them up to par.  The color is aged quite nicely.  $20

28 to 41 mm

From the top left down:

Walnut burl: 28.2 mm wearable, 13.5 mm wide.  Awesome burl eyes on these and real dark.  If you are sensitive to woods, walnut may cause a reaction.  Many people (including myself) can still wear it fine though.  $25

Redheart mayan flares and concave fronts:  31.5 mm wearable with a 35.5 mm front flare, 14.8 mm wide.  These plugs are incredibly sexy.  Shiny and a deep red with a deep bowl face.  Jump on these!  $35

Vera mayan flared eyelet:  31.8 mm wearable with a  36.3 mm front flare and  14.2 mm wide.  3 different gauged brass inlays pop in the vera.  Amazingly smooth.  $35

Cherry burl:  31.5 mm wearable, 16 mm wide.  Fat wearing space on these guys.  Lots of great burl characteristics on display.  They will darken up to a beautiful tan shade over time.  These will be re-finished before they are sold.  $30

Maple burl teardrops:  31.5 mm wearable, 18 mm wide.  This wood is one of the best slices of maple burl I have ever used.  So much going on here.  This shape is a bit more vertical than my regular teardrops, but still totally wearable.  $35

Zebrawood:  37 mm wearable, 14.3 mm wide.  Deep flares.  Kind of an in-between type size, but great to get you to up at a cheap price.  $25

Beeswing narra:  40.8 mm wearable, 15 mm wide.  I am really surprised nobody has picked them  up yet.  The wood dances like water ripples.  $30

47 - 50 mm

Mayan flared katalox eyelet: 45.5 mm wearable, 54 mm front flare, 16 mm wide.  Such a beautiful look to the katalox.  What you are seeing is the side grain, as opposed to the end grain.  $35

Afzelia burl concave eyelets:  48 mm wearable,  16.5 mm wide.  The concave on these is super deep making them very lightweight for the size.  Lots of sweet burl action here.  $45

Redwood burl eyelets:  50 mm wearable, 15.5 mm wide.  very gentle rear flare and larger front.  These are almost weightless.  $35

So that is just about my stock of large gauge, with the exception of some other items.  I have no qualms with selling any or all of it.  Take advantage of these prices while you can.

All orders get $2 United States shipping, or $5 international added.

In addition to the pre made items on sale here, I will be offering 15% off of custom orders and $10 small gauge plugs.  The $10 sale includes solid double flared plugs (no hearts, eyelets or tears).  Any wood and any size from 6 mm to 17.5 mm.

This sale will continue until labor day.

Email me with any ideas.

Cheers.

Back to school sale pt 1

August 28th, 2010

This stuff I am offering here is priced to move.  Most of these were made a year or so ago, so I am doing and “out with the old, in with the new” type thing.  Some of these are a seconds, a little wonky, some have narrow wearing space, some are perfectly fine but have been sitting in my case for too long.  I will try and describe each one to the best of my ability.

All prices will be listed per pair.  Shipping is $2 to the United States, or $5 elsewhere.  I can also re-finish them for an extra $5.  In the past few months I have changed up my finishing techniques drastically for the better.  None of these have that same finish, so that’s why I am offering that.  I would recommend it to anyone buying off of here.

Please email me with which ones you want to purchase and I will send you a paypal invoice.

Check back in a few days to see the new stuff.

Cheers.
